After moving to Lawrence, Nebraska, Ben had interests in the livery
business, built a saloon, a brick biulding , still standing west of
the bank, also engaged in threshing at times. They lived on a farm
west of Lawrence for a time. Later their home was west of the old
mill, also west of Missouri Pacific tracks. About 1900 sparks from
the train started their house on fire, and a strong wind soon reduced
the place to ashes. The family was left with only the clothing they
were wearing. He then built a home west of the Missouri Pacific
tracks, still standing. (Lawrence, Nebraska 1884 - 1984)
