Camp near Boling Green, Ky December 18th 1862
To Capt G. Welling, Comadg Fourth Regt Ky Cavalry
Sir,
For some time past my health has been very bad, occasioned by
contracting a serious cold, which threatens to change into
consumption, a hereditary disease in my family, of which my father
died and my brother, also in the army and in this regiment and now at
Hospital in Louisville suffers. I have been disabled in consequence of
my illness to attend to my most ordinary duties and am entirely unfit
for active field duties. Under the circumstances I deem it but just to
relinquish my position, to be filled by some other officer more able
to perform the duties than I am. I beg leave therefore, to render you
this my resignation and hope you will approve of and forward it at
your earliest opportunity.
Very Respectfully,
Your (?) (?)
Capt Casper Blume, Comdg Company G

I recommend the acceptance of the above resignation for the following
reasons. First that he is not able to command his company, and
secondly, that it needs a commander to enforce discipline.
Capt Geo Welling, Comdg 4th Ky Cavalry
The above resignation was sent on and approved Captain Welling's
superior and by Major Geo H. Thomas, all from Bowling Green.

In Camp Boling Green Ky Dec 18, 62
I certify on honor, that I am not indebted to the United States and
have no Government property in my possession, and further, that I have
not been absent without leave, and further, that there are no charges
against me. I have been paid up to August 31th 1862.
