Obituary for August Blume
After a lingering illness which confined him to his bed for over a
year, caused by a combination of Pheumatish, Diabetes and Dropsy,
August Blume succumbed at his home in Lawrence early Friday morning
May 29.
Mr. Blume was born at Schnellville, IN., on Nov 16, 1863 and his age
at the time of his death was 78 years, 5 months and 13 days.
He spent his youth in his home town and on April 17, 1888 was united
in marriage with Miss Theresa Kordes. To them 8 children were born, 6
of whom beside his wife survive him. They are; Mrs. John Neuhaus,
Cambridge, Nebr., Emil and Theordore of Indianola, Nebr., Mrs. Garet
Reining and Mrs. A.J. Buschkoetter of Lawrence and Mrs. Leo Gabel,
Amarillo, Texas. A son John, died 18 years ago and a daughter, Mrs.
John Reining passed away in 1937.
After spending his early married life in Indiana he moved, with his
family in 1902, to Nebraska settling on a farm near Lawrence
Several years later Mr. Blume became afflicted with a severe case of
asthma and in 1916 the family moved to Texas, thinking to restore his
health by a change of climate,
After his children had married he and Mrs. Blume returned to spend
their declining years in Lawrence. In 1928 they celebrated their
golden anniversary.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at Sacred Heart Church,
Lawrence, conducted by Rev. Chas. Becker, Pastor, with burial in the
church cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews: Robert Blume, Leonard
Buschkoetter, Vernon Reining, LeRoy Hoelting, Martin Kitten and Mark

According to the Lawrence Diamond Jubilee Book, in August 1909, The
Fairmont, Beatrice and Blue Valley Creamery Companies were all working
this area very hard this summer. Last month 1000 cans of cream were
shipped out of Lawrence. August Blume stands high as to the number of
cows kept with 32, while Henry Kitten and Joe Rempe each have 27.!HOPF
