Welcome to the Blume Family History Page

This page is devoted to the descendants of Casper and Gertrude (Meier/Meyer) Blume, who were married on July 3, 1860 in Louisville Kentucky. Casper was born September 19, 1831 in Hannover Province, Prussia/Germany and immigrated to America in 1849 or 1851. Gertrude was born June 4, 1940 in Hilcieka, Hannover, Prussia/Germany.

 

Casper is one of my most interesting ancestors, probably because I have found more information on his life than any of my other ancestors.

  • His father died when he was 8 or 9 years old.
  • He came to America with a brother (I believe his name was Henry).
  • From 1854 to 1859, he was in the US army and fought on the prairies of modern day Nebraska, Dakota, Wyoming and Kansas.
  • He was discharged from Fort Larimie, near modern day Torrington, Wyoming.
  • After Joseph was born, he joined the Union army in 1861
  • He was to be paid $100 if he came home alive by the person who place he took in the draft.
  • His brother died in the Civil War.
  • Casper was promoted to Captain in the Kentucky 4th Calvary - Company G.
  • After the war, he moved to Celestine, Indiana and started farming.
  • He later went into the dry goods business in Siberia, Indiana.
  • He died April 21, 1906 in Siberia, Indiana.
