17. Elisabeth Gertrude Blume was born on May 10 1889 in Schnellville, Dubois, Indiana. She was baptized on May 12 1889 in Sacred Heart Parish, Schnellville, Indiana. Sponsors were Elisabeth Gertrude and Casper Gerhard Blume She died on May 27 1937 in Lawrence, Nuckolls, Nebraska. She was buried in Sacred Heart cemetery, Lawrence Nebraska.

Lawrence Locomotive June 3, 1937 -- MRS JOHN REINING DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Mrs. John Reining passed away at her home southwest of Lawrence Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock after an illness of nine months. Last year April 15, she was operated on but never entirely recovered her health.

Mrs. Reining, nee Gertrude Blume, was born at Schnellville, Indiana May 10, 1889. At the age of eleven years she came to Nebraska with her parents Mr. and Mrs. August Blume.

She was united in marriage to John Reining, April 23, 1907. To this union ten children were born, three of whom died in infancy.

Her death is mourned by her husband and seven children, Teresa, Sophia, Leona, Norbert, Frances, Josephine, and Luella, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Blume of Lawrence, four sisters, Mrs. John Venhaus, a twin sister of Cambridge, Nebr., Mrs. Gerhart Reining and Mrs. Tony Buschkoetter, both of Lawrence and Mrs. Leo Gabel of St. Francis, Texas.

Also two brothers, Emil of Indianola, Nebr., and Theodore of Slayton, Texas. A brother John of St. Francis, Texas preceeded her in death thirteen years ago.

Burial took place in the Sacred Heart cemetery Saturday morning after a Requiem Mass at nine o'clock, Father Becker conducting the last rites.

Those present from out of town were Mrs. John Venhaus of Cambridge, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs. Emil Blume of Indianola, Nebr., and Mrs. and Mrs. Theodore Blume and two children of Slayton, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gabel and two children had been here about a month ago and were unable to be present for the funeral. She was married to John Herman Reining (son of Herman Bernard Reining and Maria Anna (Sophia) Heitman) on Apr 23 1907 in Lawrence, Nuckolls, Nebraska. John Herman Reining was born on Dec 24 1882 in Ferdinand, Dubois, Indiana. He was baptized on Dec 24 1882 in St. Ferdinand Parish, Ferdinand, Dubois, Indiana. He died on Mar 17 1948 in Lawrence, Nuckolls, Nebraska. He was buried in Lawrence, Nuckolls, Nebraska. John and Gertrude had a farm four mile west and one mile south of Lawrence, Nebraska. After several years, they moved to a farm two and a half miles southwest of Lawrence (Lawrence Nebraska 1884 - 1984).

A death of more than ordinary sadness was discovered Sunday afternoon when John Reining was found dead at his home by a son-in-law, Mark Himmelberg. Death had evidently occurred either on Wednesday or Thursday night. The deceased had spent part of the winter months with his daughter, Mrs. Mark Himmelberg and had returned to his home two miles south-west of town, the first part of the week promising to return after a couple of days.

Not hearing anything more of him by Sunday afternoon, Mark went to Mr. Reining's home and found that he had passed away in his sleep without apparent pain or struggle. The exact time of death is unknown. The deceased was last seen alive Wednesday afternoon when he was in town.

Needless to say, his death came as a shock to his family and numerous friends for Mr. Reining who was 65 years old, had been in apparent good health. Mrs. Martin Kitten and Norbert Reining from Hastings, Mrs. Mark Himmelberg, Mrs. Elmer Menke and Mrs. Roy Wilhelms of this community and Mrs. Mark Gilsdorf of Phoenix, Ariz., are his children, who survived him. His wife passed away in 1938. A daughter, Teresa and three infant children preceded him in death.

Burial services were held Monday afternoon from Sacred Heart church. A High Mass of Requiem was said on Tuesday morning.

John Reining was born Dec 24, 1882 at Ferdinand, Indiana and passed away at his home near Lawrence, Nebraska March 18,1948 at the age of 65 years. At the age of nine he moved to Nebraska.

He was united in marriage to Gertrude Blume on April 23, 1907 and to this union ten children were born.

Besides his children he also is survived by two brothers, Ben of Adrian, Minn., and Geard of Amarillo, Texas, and four sisters, Mrs. Tony Kordes, Stratton, Co., Mrs. John Krebsbach, Mrs. Kathryn Krebsbach, and Mrs. Ed Kathman of Lawrence.

Six nephews served as pallbearers; Steve Lawrence and Aloys Krebsbach, Herman Kathman and Leonard and LeRoy Buschkoetter. (The History of the Reining Family 1816 - 1988) Elisabeth Gertrude Blume and John Herman Reining had the following children:

Teresa Whitlock nee Teresa Reining, daughter of Mr. John Reining was born at Lawrence on January 6, 1909 and on January 24, 1944 at the age of 32 years departed this life in St. Marys Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. a few hours after the birth of a daughter.

Born in this vicinity she spent the greater part of her life in this community having attended Sacred Heart School. About two years ago she went to Kansas City, Mo., where she found employment and in 1943 was married there to Sherman Whitlock. The young couple established their home in Kansas City.

Mrs. Whitlock is survived by her husband and infant daughter Joyce Teresa, her father John Reining, five sisters, Mrs. Martin Kitten, Mrs. Mark Himmelberg, Mrs. Mark Gilsdorf and Miss Josephine and Luella at home. One brother Norbert is in the Service in North Africa. Her mother preceded her in death, having passed away in May 1937,

The body was brought from Kansas City to Mark Himmelberg home on Friday, and funeral services were held Saturday morning, at 9 o'clock, the Very Reverend F.J. Kopecky sang the Requiem Mass and conducted services at the grave in Sacred Heart Cemetery. (The History of the Reining Family 1816 - 1988)
